At a meeting on Wednesday 23 May, local Labour Party members voted unanimously for the Constituency Party to support Gordon Brown’s nomination as leader.

Harriet Harman secured the Constituency Party’s supporting nomination for her deputy leadership campaign. The final selection of a new Deputy Leader will be determined by a ballot of individual members and Trade Unionists, as well as the MPs’ nominations which have already been declared. Anyone who joins the Labour Party by Friday 1 June 2007 will be able to take part in the ballot of Labour Party members.
